Vanessa Hemovich holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and is an Associate Professor of Psychology at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Over the last 15 years, she has successfully taught a wide range of introductory and upper-division psychology courses on cognitive neuroscience, scientific research methods, and UX/UI. While her students are typically diverse, her classes are increasingly represented by more military veterans from all service branches who are returning home from active duty both domestically and abroad. She recently published a book chapter in "Responding to Call of Duty" (McFarland Press, 2017) titled, "Charlie, Oscar, Delta: An Exploration of Militarism in the Call of Duty Franchise". Currently, her research emphasizes fMRI and neuroimaging applications to various socio-cognitive phenomena, which has included a visiting fellowship with the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Harvard University. With over two dozen peer-reviewed publications and professional conference presentations, she is currently pursuing research on cognitive load as a predictive factor for pro-social behavior in competitive FPS video games.
