Everyone agrees data has value, but the unspoken truth is that data and game development often compete over the same resources. Deciding to log user actions can mean having less features in the version. Deciding to A/B test can mean delaying the next version until you have a conclusion. So, how can you use data in a way that maximizes business value but minimizes the cost to game teams? Can you build your analytics to power game decision without slowing them down? You can.

Sharing take aways from his experience at Plarium and SocialPoint, Social Point CDO, Aviv Stern, will demonstrate how they
used data to help studios understand their users without breaking their pace, adhering to a 'lean startup' strategy. In this session, you'll specifically learn how they: Created self service analytics systems that let game teams track and analyze user behavior autonomously. Changed the A/B testing methodologies to be able to quickly run an A/B test in a new game with very few users. And how they created data systems that let games use "plug and play" analytics across studios and geos.

Takeaway

You'll learn how to use data to make better games, applying "lean startup" principles to your data initiatives. You'll have real life solutions to common data (and business) challenges. You'll know what to ask of from your data teams so that your games can run fast and still have answers.

Intended Audience

Producers, heads of studio, product managers, game designers and developers, interested in learning how applying lean analytics to game development can help studios make better games. No previous technical or business knowledge required, except understanding the key decisions involved in making a game. Familiarity with common data practices in game (and product) development such as A/B testing and event tracking is highly advised. Familiarity with "lean startup" principles and specifically their application in game development is recommended.
