The first month of production is the time when you can have the most impact on the odds of shipping a great game, not to mention shipping it on time and on budget. Hit projects and doomed titles all share that same, portentous first month when the seeds of success or failure are so often sown. Yet developers often treat each day in that first month of development with less respect than they treat the days later in the project…days that arrive after so many options have been lost. Based on Don Daglow's work with AAA teams, indie developers and startups in Silicon Valley accelerators, this talk will review five key things producers need to do to make those first 30 days produce the right results.

Takeaway

Attendees will gain an understanding of how to manage the first month to lessen crunch at the end of a project, get the right amount of structure into the team and its processes, and finally how to be as quality focused building the team as you are on building the game.

Intended Audience

Indie game producers, leaders and teams.
