This session takes a painfully detailed look at the iteration of a single game: the mobile title 'Losswords'. Through dozens of screenshots, mock-ups, and wireframe schematics, this session will trace the development of the game from fundamental changes through the minutiae of detailed refinement. Along the way, the speaker will touch on a number of key issues that connect UX and game design, from core mechanics to narrative interfaces. Iteration is a double-edged sword: join this session to hear the hard lessons learned, both good and bad.
Through extremely close examination of one game over a multiyear period, the session sheds light on how to evolve ideas and designs beyond local design maxima into a better place. Everyone faces the challenge of radical creativity and shipping on time. This session shares best practices for doing both.
This rapid-fire session is for anyone interested in the iterative design process. While it is centered on UX and game design, it will also touch on visual design, project management, narrative design, and the changing revenue models of the mobile game world.
