These 10-min microtalks will give realistic examples of how to run a small game studio without a surprise runaway hit. These game studios have been in business for about 5 years, and employ each between 4-10 people. The microtalks are: "How to get client work and how to balance it against original IP development" by Christopher Langmuir of Anemone Hug Interactive. "How to support game development through hardware and IP partnerships" by Theresa Duringer of Temple Gates Games. And finally, "How to grow a studio's fanbase to have increasingly successful titles and bootstrap that development with Kickstarters" by Kim Jongwoo of Kitfox Games.
Attendees will takeaway a series of different approaches to funding independent game development, including how to acquire contract work and balance it against IP development, how to mitigate risk through hardware and IP partnerships, and how to engage in community growth for crowdfunding and increased sales.
The microtalks will benefit individuals starting an independent game studio, whether straight out of school or by transitioning out of a job in the industry, and also small studio owners who are curious how other studios in the space have successfully approached running their businesses.
