In independent game development you'll often find yourself diving into roles you're not familiar with. This can include coordinating with an artist, or even being the artist, for your game without much prior art experience. You might look at your game's visuals and want something changed, but struggle to identify what, or why.

After a primer on basic art principles and terms, this talk provides examples of common challenges in game art production, as well as their possible solutions, to give insight into how to analyze your own game's visuals.

Takeaway

The attendee will learn useful visual arts terms, a structure for understanding and identifying ways visual art may be improved, and will gain a point of reference through practical example for how they might apply this knowledge to their own game.

Intended Audience

Game developers with limited art experience.
