This session demonstrates the design process of creating costumes for the characters in Remedy Entertainment's 'Control'. The case presents ways to integrate a professional costume designer into the character art pipeline in games that aim for a realistic art style.

Takeaway

Costume design is often mistaken for fashion design. While fashion concentrates on the aesthetic features of clothing, costume design is the analog form of character art: both aim to express the character’s background, age, personality, and social status in the context of the story. In Control, both analog and digital methods were utilized to integrate the tactile knowledge of costume construction into the character pipeline.

Intended Audience

Anyone interested in costume design in game development and integrating a costume designer into the character pipeline will benefit from this session.
