Situational game design is a new design methodology that focuses on players' internal experiences rather than rules or mechanics. It's particularly useful for analyzing the moment-to-moment play of games that contain periods where the player interacts only minimally with the game's systems. This session provides a brief introduction to the fundamentals of situational design, with an eye toward instructors who might want to use it in a classroom setting.
Attendees will come away with a basic understanding of the methodology of situational game design.
This talk is intended for instructors who teach undergraduate courses in game design. No prior knowledge is required.
