Offering an insight into techniques brought from film and adapted into the interactive genre on numerous titles, Barney Pratt, Audio Director for Supermassive Games will demonstrate how the audio team at Supermassive has developed various hybrid techniques to fuse film nuanced emotional experiences and improve the sense of voyeurism (crucial to player engagement) into their games.
This lecture will cover enhancing characterization with a combination of procedural Foley systems and film-style linear Foley elements, rewriting the panning rules and overall mix techniques in order to place the player in the scene, how the game design created these opportunities in the first place, and of course, editing and integrating music and sound design interactively to fit every key narrative moment precisely.
